CHINA–IRAN GUIDE

China to Iran: Rail, Road, Air or Sea Freight?

China–Iran shipments can move by rail, road, air or sea. The right choice depends on required timing, shipment size, cargo type, collection point and delivery scope.

Road freight

Road freight is a standalone service option between China and Iran. The collection address, packed dimensions, weight, loading arrangements and transit requirements guide the plan. Routing and estimated timing are confirmed for the actual shipment.

  • Supplier collection and delivery coordination
  • Road routing and transit planning

Rail freight

Rail can provide a middle ground between ocean and air for suitable containerized cargo and available corridors. Schedules and routing should be checked for the specific shipment.

  • Useful for selected containerized cargo
  • Can support multimodal routing
  • Availability depends on corridor and schedule

Sea freight

Sea freight is commonly considered for larger volumes and containerized cargo when transit time is less critical.

  • FCL for full-container shipments
  • LCL for smaller ocean shipments
  • Port and onward inland planning are part of the total route

Air freight

Air freight is generally selected when urgency, cargo value or time sensitivity outweighs the higher transport cost.

  • A time-focused option for suitable urgent shipments
  • Suitable for urgent and lower-volume cargo
  • Airport handling and final delivery still need coordination

Start with the actual collection point

A country-level enquiry is not enough to compare the four modes. Send the supplier’s city, full pickup address, packed dimensions, gross weight, package count and cargo-ready date. Identify whether the quotation should include collection from one supplier or several. If goods from several locations need to move together, list each location and its readiness separately rather than assuming that all cargo can depart on the same date.

Compare the complete route, not only the main leg

Request a clear breakdown of collection, origin handling, the main transport leg, destination handling and any onward delivery included in the proposal. Ask what the estimated transit period starts and ends with, and whether time for consolidation is included. Confirm equipment, space and routing for the actual booking. Rail, road, air and sea are all service options, but the final plan depends on the shipment and available arrangements rather than a fixed promise of speed or savings.
