Sea freight is suited to many commercial shipments where capacity and cost efficiency matter more than the shortest transit time. Good planning begins with the cargo profile and the complete door-to-door scope.
Choose between FCL and LCL
FCL provides a dedicated container, while LCL combines compatible cargo from several shippers. Compare cargo volume, handling sensitivity, timing and total origin and destination costs.
- Final packed volume and weight
- Number and type of packages
- Stackability and handling restrictions
- Required pickup and delivery dates
Select the appropriate container
Standard dry containers are not suitable for every shipment. Heavy, oversized or temperature-sensitive cargo may require a reefer, open-top, flat-rack or another equipment solution subject to carrier approval.
Compare the complete cost scope
An ocean rate alone is not a complete freight proposal. Check pickup, export handling, documentation, terminal charges, main carriage, destination charges, customs coordination and final delivery.
Prepare accurate shipping documents
The commercial invoice, packing list, commodity details and shipping instructions must describe the same cargo. Any regulated commodity, dangerous goods or special equipment request should be declared before booking.
Plan around operational milestones
Cargo readiness, booking confirmation, cut-off times, terminal acceptance, vessel schedules, transshipment and customs can all affect delivery. Use estimated dates as planning milestones rather than unconditional guarantees.
